Pray for the Wenma Zhuang of China
I am Qiang, a man of the Wenma Zhuang people, living in the lush hills of Wenshan Prefecture in Yunnan, China. My life revolves around farming, especially rice cultivation in the terraced fields surrounding my village. I rise early before the sun comes up to go to the fields. I return from the fields late, to eat a simple meal with my wife and children. Our culture is deeply intertwined with Buddhism and animism; and if you lived with me a month, you would really see how the fear of the spirit-world marks my life. You would see the god shelf where we give food sacrifices to the spirits. I never know if I am pleasing the spirits. I do, however, believe there is a heaven and hell. And I do understand the need for sacrifice. Yet, I’ve rarely heard of Christ and I’ve definitely not heard that by his sacrificial death, he can take away my sins, that he can free me from enslavement to the spirit world, and that he can reconcile me to God. When I have heard about people following Christ in another village, people said the village leader would not allow that person to attend village events, that the village people were prohibited from visiting them, and that none of their family could be buried in the village cemetery. I can’t imagine that! Those things would definitely make me think twice about the cost of following Christ.

Pray that Wenma Zhuang people, like Qiang, would hear the gospel in clear and meaningful ways. Pray that the Lord of the harvest would send those who would faithfully proclaim the good news to them.
Pray for God to prepare the hearts of Wenma Zhuang, that they would see the hopelessness of spirit worship and have a longing for Christ, who, by his sacrifice, is able to free them from the slavery to spirits, sin, and the fear of death.
Pray that Wenma Zhuang people would count the cost of following Christ and see that he is worth it!
